  • { #realstagram } After an 18 hour bus ride on which the temperature was akin to that of Antartica and an intoxicated woman sat behind me playing what sounded like an accordion being tortured on her giant portable stereo, never mind the distinct lack of toilet paper and lunatic Colombian driving, I now feel compelled to be a little real about travel... . It ain't all sunshine and fruity cocktails! It's bloody tough sometimes. You've got to have thick skin to do this. You've got to be patient, resilient and open minded. You absolutely HAVE to be able to see the good in the bad, to laugh when things don't work out how you imagined (which is like all the time) and most of all you need to be accepting. It's not home after all, that's the whole point! . There's been days I've been completely sick of it, and on those days I've wanted to throw my backpack in the bin, go home, cuddle my dog, eat Mum's cooking and be consumed by familiarity. But the good news is that feeling never lingers long. And as the saying goes, you don't get the good without the bad. . On 'bad days' I've learnt to go to bed, get a good nights sleep and plan nothing for the next day. I wake up slowly reminding myself I'm not going to work! I'm on holiday, albeit an adventurous, testing one 😉 Then I make a coffee and relax all day. By the end of it I'm back on track, excited and grateful to be doing this. The experiences I'm having are shaping me into the best person I can possibly be and that makes it all worth it! . . . . .
