Foreign Aussie – Winner of the Versatile Blogger Award!
Guys I can't believe it! I've been selected as a winner of the versatile blogger award, this is AMAZING! As an unestablished travel blogger it is SO nice to be recognized by my peers in the blogging community. Gaining traction as a blogger is very slow and very tough, this recognition for my writing is a huge boost of confidence. There can't be many better feelings than that of self progression! A big thankyou goes out to Maria for nominating me, Maria runs Travel Bliss and like me she is a passionate traveller using blogging as a platform to share her insights and stories with the world. Maria encourages others to 'follow their bliss' and do whatever their heart truly desires just like she did!
So what exactly is the Versatile Blogger Award? It's an online award given to new bloggers for encouragment and support, a fantastic way for the blogging community to motivate and push one another towards success. I for one am honoured and definitely feeling encouraged! Recipients of the the Versatile Blogger Award must be nominated by their peers. If you have been nominated here are the rules;
- Write and publish a blog post thanking and linking back to the person who nominated you
- In your post list seven random facts about yourself
- Nominate up to 15 other blogs who you follow and believe deserve recognition
7 random facts about Megz
Content creator and founder of Foreign Aussie
1. I have an EXTREME fear of clowns
I know, it's weird. 'Claurophobia' is the technical term. I don't know where it stems from because I loved clowns as a child! but now I can't even look at a picture of one let alone be anywhere near one in the flesh, hence why there is no picture to go with this fact. To be fair they're pretty creepy right?!
2. The book 'Shantaram' inspired me to travel
Even before I could read I loved books! Most young children will gather their entire collection of stuffed toys and snuggle in bed with them, but not me. I'd gather every book in the house, put them all on my bed and then lay amongst them... what kind of weirdo kid does that?! I think I'd always wanted to see the world but the seed wasn't truly planted until I read 'Shantaram' at the age of 17. My dad encouraged me to read it and I'm so glad he did! it was filled with adventure, excitement and the unknown. From that day on I began dreaming up my own worldy adventures and five years later I was living them!
3. I'm not ashamed to say that I own the entire box set of Disney films
Over 200 dvd's! I love anything and everything Disney. Is it cliche that my favourite is the Lion King? I think that's probably most people's favourite! When I went to Disney land in Paris it was literally one of the best days of my life, which I know is incredibly lame but I'm ok with it. I even own a giant stuffed Eeyore which I still snuggle at night... maybe I should have left that part out.
4. The 'lux' life isn't for me
I grew up going on 'real' camping trips, the kind where bladder and bowel movements were taken over a dirt hole and a shower came in the form of splashing some water on yourself once every few days. I love the outdoors and getting back to basics so it's no surprise that camping is my favourite kind of holiday! I feel extremely uncomfortable in high class luxury environments, call me a modern day Mick Dundee. I attribute my love of authentic travel to all those years of camping in the bush like a prehistoric cave family.
5. I have the world map tatooed on my back
I had it done in Ibiza. If you look closely you'll see there's a little red heart tatooed inside Australia. The world map represents my passion for travel and adventure, it's been such a huge part of my life and has shaped me into the woman I am today which happens to be one that I'm very proud of! The heart represents my Australian roots because as much as I love travel, it can be really tough sometimes and that little red heart is a constant reminder that home is never far away.
6. The greatest adventure of my life was finding the Northern Lights
My fiance and I were in Iceland, we'd been there for 7 days with no luck. For our final night we plotted, planned, checked forecasts and pinned an exact spot on the map we needed to get to. It was the only place in the whole country that had predicted clear skies that night! After dark we set off and drove for hours, desperately searching the skies. All hope seemed lost until about 1am when we began to notice the sky changing, it was faint at first but within half and hour the sky was a vivid, undulating green. It still feels like a dream!
7. I LOVE animals! I feel strongly about animal rights and conservation
As a young girl I wanted to be a vet, and although that didn't come to pass my passion for animals never faded. I love them all, great and small! as a child I had rabbits, dogs, fish, parrots, and chickens. I dream that one day I'll own and run my very own animal rescue centre. Would there be anything better than spending your days in the company of 100 dogs? life goals! I'm very dedicated to 'doing my bit' for the environment too. I take 5 minute showers, turn all the power points off when I'm not using them and I even go as far as wearing 5 jumpers in winter to save putting the heating on! call me green finger.
